Bergrivier Besproeiing is currently involved in the Dwarsrivier Rosemary project situated in the Lanquedoc-Pniel area.
The project was initiated to develop the land belonging to the communities, in a manner that prioritizes employment and upliftment of the local people. The project currently supplies work to 9 people (families) from Lanquedoc.
The workers have been farming the current 3.5 hectares of rosemary that was planted in 2019. This has been done with technical and financial assistance by various parties concerned with the well-being of the people of Dwarsrivier Valley. However, to make the project sustainable in the long term, additional plantings are required.
Up to now, the rosemary was only sold in the fresh market. By securing drying facilities at ARC Bien Donne, supplying products to the spice industry became possible. With a secured capital investment and partnership from Crown, the establishment of the additional 3 hectares origanum in 2022, is now feasible.
The goal is to hand the management of a sustainable project over to a trained workforce and management team comprising of people from the community.
The total value of the expansion of this project is R255 000, which includes the planning, consultation, materials, and installation.
A big thanks to all of our suppliers for donating materials to make this project possible!
