Irrigation Consultations

Bergrivier Besproeiing has qualified technical engineers who are trained to do all irrigation designs.

In short, our service consists of the following:

  • We visit the client and determine what is the need and scope of the project.
  • We look at all the facts, information and analyse the farm as a whole. A proper analysis is done where the future needs and expansions are looked at. We look at a long-term plan and combine it with the current circumstances.
  • We survey the farm with sophisticated GPS machines that are accurate to 1 cm.
  • A detailed plan with 0.5m to 1.0m contours, block layouts, main lines and block Information is drawn.

GPS Surveys of Farms

Bergrivier Besproeiing uses the latest GPS technology. We use the advanced GPS system from OPTRON. This system is connected to satellites that process the information live and download it immediately to the computers. The accuracy of the system is 1cm and information is readily available.

Drone Surveying

We use the latest DJI drone technology and programming to gather data quickly and accurately. We mostly use this for land surveys, photogrammetry, 3D mapping, and topographic surveying. Drones enable our specialists to map hard-to-reach landscapes and terrain. The high-resolution orthophotos enable us to perform highly accurate surface measurements as well as slope and contour evaluation. This enables us to design the best possible irrigation system for the area.

Irrigation Systems Design

Bergrivier Besproeiing has many years of practical experience with regards to the design of irrigation systems and the optimization of projects. We use several high-tech applications to design the best irrigation systems.

Unique applications have been developed for the best designs. We use the Model Maker program to optimize the measurements and designs. Pump programs are used to select the best pumps for projects.

Technology can not replace experience, but it does provide valuable support for our projects.

Drawing of Plans

Bergrivier Besproeiing’s engineers and technicians are trained to draw plans of the highest quality. All information regarding the irrigation system, block surfaces, cultivars etc. is indicated.

The plans are drawn on the Model Maker program which is very suitable for irrigation designs and general farm plans. We also draw farm plans that can be used for farm management.

Our A0 printer and laminator enable us to present farm plans neatly to clients.

These plans are extremely important for daily planning. All information is stored digitally. Our plans date back as far as 1989 and are still frequently consulted.

Analyse and Optimise

Bergrivier Besproeiing has the necessary expertise and computer programs to analyze your irrigation on the farm and determine whether your system is functioning at the best efficiency. We have many years of practical experience on farms and can determine where the bottlenecks are. We can bring the theory and practice together to see what the best option is for the specific farm.

Scheduling of Irrigation

Bergrivier Besproeiing has the necessary computer programs to do the scheduling of your irrigation. We work with knowledgeable people in the industry who know the soil types, such as the moisture holding ability etc. Expert phytologists are involved in knowing the water needs of the crops concerned in each stage of growth. We work with the weather data and evaporation figures to design the system for the “worst case scenario”. We use this information to do the optimum irrigation scheduling.

We have the technology to measure moisture in the soil in several ways. There are different types for every need. Ground drills still work best and we keep stock. Tension meters are installed on 300mm, 600mm and 900mm. The most effective, however, are the “Continuous Soil Moisture Probes”, these moisture meters work with a SIM card and take readings every 1 hour, they are passed on to a website where the information is available. This is where graphs and information are stored, with this technology you can manage your irrigation scheduling very accurately.

Fertilizer Application

Bergrivier Besproeiing has the necessary expertise to design liquid fertilizer systems for every need on the farm or nursery. Liquid fertilizer’s needs are looked at in detail by adding the necessary mixtures to irrigation water. We have the necessary equipment and computer programmes to be able to apply the fertilizer accurately. It is applied flow by flow or as batches at a time.

Computerised Irrigation

Bergrivier Besproeiing works with most irrigation computer manufacturers such as. Motorola, Irrigator, DFM, Hunter and several others. We use all the products stated above – each manufacturer has its place in the field. However, service is of utmost importance after you have purchased the system. We look at the designs and placement of the radios to make sure everything is working properly. You need to know the irrigation design to be able to recommend the right computer system.

Garden Irrigation Designs

We have the necessary expertise and materials to provide you with the best irrigation system for your garden. We do the designs and you can come and buy the material at Bergrivier Besproeiing’s counter. We use private contractors to do the installation and have several types of irrigation systems that we can recommend for you.

Sports Fields and Parks Designs

Bergrivier Bespoeiing has the necessary expertise to do the designs for sports fields and parks. We measure the relevant area and do the best design for the situation. We use the best types of materials to ensure that customers can get the most out of the system. Hunter products from the USA are mostly used. We are also actively involved in the golf courses and offer a service that keeps the pumps and infrastructure in place. However, theft is a challenge and the designs and materials are designed to limit losses.

Dam Design

Our expert engineers do the planning and design of dams. We measure the site and determine the volumes. We also do a feasibility study. If the project is viable, we work with various role players (professional dam engineers, environmental impact study consultants, etc.) to get the project up and running. However, the Department of Water Affairs is a big challenge.

Drainage Systems

Bergrivier Besproeiing has years of experience in drainage. Drainage is of utmost importance in any successful orchard or vineyard and is often not done right, and we have the knowledge to do it right. Drainage must be properly designed and installed correctly, if you take short paths here, it will cost you. Drainage cannot be installed after the time and must be installed before the orchard is planted. Most orchards that start to sag and produce poor yields are due to poor designs and installation of the drainage.
