Vinpro’s Gen-Z vineyard project involves the establishment of small-scale demo sites across the wine grape growing areas in South Africa.
The aim is to connect viticulturists, wine producers, suppliers and researchers with the latest practices, technology and tools.
Boland Agricultural School is the first school where this demo vineyard is established and gives the learners exposure to viticulture and agricultural practices. A total of 21 red and 19 white wine grape cultivars, that will grow specifically in the terroir of the Agter-Paarl region, were planted.
“The majority of the 2 861 wine grape vines consist of traditional grape varieties, together with a number of newer grape varieties such as Agiorgitiko, Arinarnoa, Lledoner Pelut, Assyrtiko and Piquepoul Blanc. At the same time, six different pergola systems, as well as a number of different pruning techniques are being tested,” Vinpro mentioned in their article.
Bergrivier Besproeiing donated R150 000 towards the design, materials and installation of the irrigation system for these proof blocks.
The main line was strategically planned for current and future development of vegtable gardens and other agricultural expansion. Thanks Netafim for their contribution with material.
The goal for us is to continue to share agricultural irrigation knowledge with the next generation. We are proud to be part of this project.
